Our Mission
A Small Firm Grounded in both Tradition and Technology
Mata & Hill PLC is a law firm with roots in the Shenandoah Valley, comprised of attorneys admitted to practice in Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida. We offer an array of legal services, with a large focus on property law- primarily transactional, but with litigation expertise to fall back on when necessary.
We draw on the best aspects of traditional law practice, including unflinching integrity and a drive for professional excellence, while at the same time embracing technology to provide clients efficient and effective representation, striving, for example, to maintain a paperless office and utilizing cloud-based systems.
Some of our core practice areas include real estate settlements; wills, trusts, and estates; business formation and counsel; and landlord-tenant matters. Please note that not all practice areas are available in every jurisdiction we serve.
We have convenient office locations throughout the Shenandoah Valley, from Winchester, Virginia down to Harrisonburg, Virginia, as well as in Sarasota, Florida, and we offer internet-based virtual conferencing in addition to traditional meetings and teleconferencing.

Let's Get Started
1. Request a Consultation
An initial consultation is the usual first step in any representation. You will have one on one time with an attorney by telephone, web conference, or live in the office, to discuss the details of your case and to determine any next steps. For many clients, this consultation may be sufficient in itself to resolve the matter.
2. Establish Engagement
Continued representation after the initial consultation begins with a Letter of Engagement, which governs the representation and establishes baseline expectations concerning fee structure, communications, services being provided, etc. Some matters, such as most estate plans, will clarify the specific documents and counsel being provided, usually at a flat fee. Other matters, such as most litigation, will require a retainer to provide a source of payment for fees billed at an hourly rate.
3. Ongoing Representation
As your matter proceeds, you will be updated about the current status and apprised of action items needed. Communications are often via email, but may take the form of in-person meetings, virtual videoconferences, or telephone calls. For sharing of sensitive documents and information, we offer a secure client portal as well. At every step along the way, you are free to get clarifications and ask questions until your matter is resolved.
