Who We Are

We are attorneys and counsellors at law with a primary focus on property transfers, from seller to purchaser as well as from generation to generation. We believe that in every legal matter, there is no one-size-fits-all solution and that, as a general policy, litigation should be a course of last resort when all other avenues have been explored.

We are a law firm grounded in many of the traditional aspects of the law- which means we take to heart that law is one of the "learned professions" and not merely a fungible service that can be easily outsourced to AI or DIY internet forms. At the same time, we are eager to embrace technology to stretch our time and resources further to assist our clients more efficiently and effectively in an ever more connected world.

Vincent J. Mata

Attorney at Law (Principal)
Admitted in Virginia
Admitted in West Virginia
Admitted in Florida

Mr. Mata focuses his practice on Wills, Trusts, Estates and Elder Law matters and is admitted to both the Virginia and West Virginia bars.

Mr. Mata was born in Chicago, the oldest of six children, and grew up in rural northern Illinois. Torn between attending the University of Chicago and the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Mata ended up at the home of the Fighting Irish. During his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Mata decided to test a religious calling and entered a Roman Catholic seminary. Later discerning that this was not the right path for him, Mr. Mata moved on to graduate studies in Philosophy at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, before going on to law school at George Mason University School of Law (now Antonin Scalia Law School) in Arlington, Virginia.

Mr. Mata moved with his wife and young family to the northern Shenandoah Valley while still in law school, attracted by the beauty of rural living and the wholesome community.

After some time with a small, general practice firm, Mr. Mata founded and managed for five years his own law practice, Shenandoah Estate Planning & Elder Law PLC, which focused entirely on estate and elder law matters. When approached by Mr. Hill about expanding the firm's offerings and forming a partnership, Mata & Hill PLC was born.

Mr. Mata is an avid amateur astrophotographer and also occasionally teaches as an adjunct professor of philosophy at Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia. His wife and four children are parishioners at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal, Virginia.
